The man is a former Olympian canoeist.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the indictment of a Maryland man, a former three-time Olympic canoeist, for felony destruction of a national monument after allegedly vandalizing the newly renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Attorney Pirro said that “evidence further shows that the National Park Service employees observed [the man] actually forcefully and violently pulling up and removing the bottom liner with both hands. According to witnesses, Hearn damaged approximately two square feet of sealant.”
“Today is about accountability for damaging a national resource, a national treasure, and that is the Reflecting Pool that runs from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial, which is, of course, a symbol of D.C.’s beauty and history,” she continued. “It was recently renovated with significant funds and investments. Any tampering undermines that.”
Attorney Pirro added that anyone who causes damage to national monuments will be held to account.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Attorney Pirro as she oversees federal prosecutions in the capital district.
- For National Park Service personnel as they collaborate with Park Police to secure national monuments.
